Keep Up with Your Car: Why Fluid Maintenance is Important

We want the outside of our cars to be in good shape, but it's easy to neglect the inside, especially fluids, which are important to keep our cars running great. When issues come up with your car, old fluids could likely be the culprit.

  • Oil: This can be kept up regularly by having it changed every 3,000 miles.
  • Transmission Fluid: You can check this on a monthly bases for a burnt smell or brown color, meaning it's time to replace it. Otherwise, you can keep up with it by replacing it every 50-100,000 miles.
  • Coolant: Checking this only twice a year is recommended, because it only needs replacing every couple years.
  • Brake Fluid: If your brakes are giving you problems, the fluid might need changing. Every two years, the fluid should be replaced.
  • Power Steering Fluid: Many car manuals recommend to keep these levels topped off. Any creaking or unusual sounds coming from your steering wheel could mean to get this fluid checked.
