Pickup Truck Faceoff: Ram Big Horn vs Silverado LT

Looking down the line-up of modern trucks, it is no surprise that the 2020 Ram 1500 and 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 are two of the top-ranking trucks on the market. We see solid feature selection, powertrain systems, and safety tech worked into each model of these vehicles. For the sake of comparison, we decided to take a look at two specific models that are very similar in trim level and design; the 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab and the 2020 Chevy Silverado LT Quad Cab. Continue reading on to see how they measure up against each other!

2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab Power & Handling

A truck's performance capabilities start and ends with its powertrain systems; Ram has engineered and selected three different engine options with the 1500 to push the performance and standards of excellence to new heights. Starting with the base 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, this engine is able to push out over 300 horsepower and upwards of 269 lb-ft of torque, giving the truck a strong starting point in performance and capability. If you are looking to push tow capacities to its limit, Ram also works in a massive 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine as an optional replacement to bring the max tow capacity to over 12,700 lbs! Ram also offers an impressive 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, that has improved off of previous renditions of the engine to be capable of pushing out 480 lb-ft of torque and a class-leading 12,560 lbs of tow capacity!

2020 Chevrolet Silverado LT Double Cab Power & Handling

Chevy offers two solid engine options with the SIlverado LT Double Cab model, pushing the performance to high levels while on the job. We see a 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-4 be the standard option offered with this model, which can push out a decent level of power similar to Ram's Pentastar V6. Comparing the two base engines however shows that the performance/capability of Ram's V6 are a bit higher, even with similar power outputs. Fortunately, Chevy does also offer an optional 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel V6 engine to take its place if you are looking to tow/haul more cargo. This engine has an impressive 460 lb-ft of torque output but doesn't quite match up to the Ram 1500's EcoDiesel torque (480 lb-ft) or the incredibly high tow capacity we see from the Silverado's competitor either.

2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab Features & Design

The 2020 Ram 1500 is well built, especially the Big Horn Quad Cab trim model. Within the truck we see a spacious interior with comfortable premium cloth upholstery and features such as keyless entry/ignition and an 8.4-inch touchscreen display that houses the convenient to use Uconnect 4 infotainment system. The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration are well integrated into the Uconnect 4 system, especially with an optional enhancement to bring in a larger 12-inch touchscreen display that offers split-screen functionality. The outside of the truck is well situated, with a long 6' 4" bed and additional storage compartments that are easy to access.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado LT Double Cab Features & Design

Looking over the 2020 Silverado LT Double Cab, we see a similar overall design that works off of the success of previous year models. Inside the truck's cabin is a decently sized front area with rear seating for passengers to seat five people at full capacity. The rear seats are a nice addition with the Double Cab, but are a bit tight fitting in terms of rear legroom, especially compared to the 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab. Chevy does bring in a solid set of features though similar to the Ram 1500, adding on LED headlights, smart keyless entry, a rear locking tailgate, and an 8-inch touchscreen display that houses the infotainment system. Being similarly equipped, the Silverado LT Double Cab does miss out on some core features we see in the Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab model, such as a push-button start ignition system. The Chevy infotainment system also only includes an 8-inch touchscreen, where Ram offers the massive 12-inch screen with split-screen functionality.

Digging into both of these excellent pickup trucks shows off why they are easily two of the top-rated trucks on the market, especially when looking at two models that are very similar. The 2020 Silverado LT Double Cab works in a decent set of features with the model but misses out on some core features that we see from the Ram 1500 at the same trim level. The 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab also comes offered with the segment-exclusive 12-inch touchscreen and outperforms its competitor when we compare their turbocharged diesel engines. Overall, we have to give the win here to the 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab, for its top-tier performance and well-stocked feature selection.
